In Manchester encoding bit rate is half the baud rate
CONCEPT:
To transfer data (which is in form of bits) from one computer to another via various physical channels (Coaxial cables, Optical cables,.. )
Different encoding techniques are used in data communication at the physical layer.
Manchester encoding is a synchronous clock encoding technique to encode the clock and data of a synchronous bitstream.
A logic 0 is indicated by a 0 to 1 transition at the center of the bit and a logic 1 by 1 to 0 transition.Bit Rate: It is the number of bits that get transmitted in a second (a bit consists of 0's and 1's).
Baud Rate: It is the number of signal unit transmissions in a second (that represents those bits)
Bit rate is related to the speed of the transmission of the digital bit, while baud rate is related to the speed of change of symbols.
Relation between bit rate and baud rate:
\(\text {Baud Rate} = \text {Bit Rate} \times c \times\)\(1 \over r\)
where c = Case factor usually = 1 and r = data element per signal element
In Manchester coding, a data bit is encoded in two signal elements so \(\text {r = }\)\(1 \over 2\).
Since half of the bit duration level is up, and for half of the bit duration, it is down so two signal elements per data element, resulting in half the baud rate.
